PSVF’s strategy is to invest in companies that develop and integrate the “next generation” of technologies. These companies would ideally fill the pipelines of large pharmaceutical companies with products that have the potential to diagnose and treat the underlying causes of important human diseases. By also concentrating on specific life sciences sectors, PSVF has the advantage of rapidly identifying emerging industry trends and investing in second- and third- generation companies that address the shortcomings of existing products and technologies.

Concentration on Early-Stage Rounds
PSVF expects to make a majority of its investments in early-stage venture rounds, including initial rounds of funding for corporate spin-outs. We believe this environment affords us a significant opportunity to obtain superior returns on our investments through a disciplined valuation process paired with substantial industry expertise.

Sourcing High-Quality Investment Opportunities
PSVF believes our team’s experience and industry relationships make us an attractive lead investor as well as co-investor for syndicates led by other venture capitalists. Collectively, our investment professionals have many years of experience in the life sciences and venture capital industries. We have gained our expertise through participation in various professional organizations, involvement in current and past portfolio companies, our track record as prominent entrepreneurs and corporate leaders, and from our history of successful capital investing. • Portfolio Company Founders and CEOs
  Through our entrepreneurial backgrounds and history of investing in life sciences companies, we have developed a network of entrepreneurs and CEOs who serve as sources of investment opportunities as well as managers and/or board members of other portfolio companies. In the past two years, we have created and financed six spin-outs from publicly-traded life sciences companies. We successfully achieved this by relying on our intimate knowledge of the merits of the company’s technologies and strength of their management teams.

  Over the past two decades, PSVF’s investment professionals have worked with many leading venture capital firms to create and participate in co-investment opportunities. Most venture financings of life sciences companies involve syndicates of venture firms.   In contrast to other areas of venture investing, life sciences companies often originate from non-commercial institutions. PSVF’s partners have long-standing and excellent working relationships with preeminent institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute; and with many universities including Indiana University, Purdue University, University of Notre Dame, MIT, Caltech, Harvard, Yale, Johns Hopkins and the University of California.
